I'm back Jack!
Hi everyone,
I've been M.I.A for a while. Lots going on personally. But I'm back now and I'm getting back into the blogging swing of things. Thanks for continuing to post messages here. I love knowing that there are more of you out there sharing my same struggle through perimenopause.
Not much improvement to share. I wish I could say the symptoms are better, but they are worse actually. My night sweats are regular now, I'm packing on the pounds (35lbs in the past 2 years!!!), and my most recent symptom is dizziness. I was sitting in a meeting at work one day and the room started spinning on me. I've had several incidents of this now and it disturbs me.
Oh and there's the headaches.... more than I've ever had before. Yup, I feel like I've even experienced the odd hot flash - if that's possible. If you're new to my blog, you should know that I'm only a few months away from turning 40. At this rate, I can only imaging what the next ten or so years will bring. Ugh!!!! I should mention that I've had blood tests and mutiple discussions with my doctor(s) about this and STILL NO ONE WILL ACKNOWLEDGE MY PERIMENOPAUSE. They constantly tell me I'm too young.
Any other "under 40's" out there in the same boat? I've love to hear from you.
Over the next few weeks I'm going to do some serious work on adding resources to the blog. If anyone has a link or interesting resource I should add, please let me know.
Until next time.

I am 38 and have been having hot flashes. I've been wondering about this, too (why docs won't call this early menopause/perimenopause). Here's what I've discovered, medical textbooks and the ACOG describe early menopause as occurring between 40 and 45. Anything before that and -- poof! -- it's all in your head! Gotta love the medical establishment. As for the menopausal headaches, they are most likely being caused by fluctuating estrogen levels. Here's an informative article on the topic: Headaches in Menopause and Perimenopause
ReplyDeleteI got tired of hearing that I was too young after talking to family and friends, people who I thought would support me. Fortunately, I have a really great doctor that I've been going to for many years. She helped me understand what was happening and gave some great advice. This all started when I was only 37, I'm 41 now. Do I feel better? Sometimes but I've gained about 40 pounds and am having a hell of a time trying to lose weight. The hot flashes aren't alot of fun but they are easier to tolerate when you can button your pants.
ReplyDeleteI'm 44 and have been having these same problems. My OBGYN said she started around 43. She said if I don't have a period for 1 year I would be in menopause but ofcourse after the third month and finally getting use to the idea what happens....a period comes and I have to start counting all over again...I have been perscribed a low dose antidepressant and it has really helped with the hot flashes but have yet to find a cure for the foggy head. I work in the health care field and I NEED a clear head..lol I find friends and co workers asking me if I'm OK because they think I have lost my mind and can't think!!! The might find it funny but when it's you it's not funny it's just scarey!!
ReplyDeleteI have a LOT to say on this subject, and will as soon as I can get all of my thoughts together. In the mean time fasten your seat belts and keep your arms inside the ride at all times!
ReplyDeleteLOVE your blog! It feels good to know that I'm not alone. I entered the full-fledged menopause category recently and it is has been a hard battle to say the least! My skin is sagging, this bloating is out of control, and the harder I push in exercise, all it does is just maintains my seven pound weight gain I've recently put on. How I miss the days when the only time I gained was during my period. Friends have no idea when they say, "I can't wait 'til I start menopause and don't have to go through this once a month anymore...." I keep telling them it is NO picnic, I'd change places with them in a second flat! :) This was, by far,the worst Summer I've had with hot flashes...but since I have such a low tolerance for cold, I'm kind of hoping they visit me a little more often :)
ReplyDeleteI have been peri-menopausal since about 38. I'm 42 now and symptoms are just getting more severe. I have hot flashes, night sweats, wake up 3-5 times per night, headaches, unwanted hair growth, thinning hair on my head, sex drive in the toilet, palpitations and problems with focusing/depression/dizziness. This sucks!!
ReplyDeleteI am really starting to think about Hormone Replacement Therapy. I have no history of heart disease or breast cancer in my family, so I wonder if it's a possibility. This perimenopause is for the birds!
